Why are We Called 1534 Coffee and 1534 Kanata?

In the year 1534, Jacques Cartier (French explorer) landed on a "New-found-land" and was rescued by the Kanatas First Nations people.

Since then, most of First Nations history has been written from the perspective of colonists and others. At 1534 Coffee and 1534 Kanata, we want to correct that narrative and celebrate our Indigenous traditions. We do this by sharing a cup of our 1534 coffee with you.

On behalf of the First Nations people, we invite you to enjoy our organic coffee and share in our traditions and Anishnawbek values. Every product purchased helps to support Indigenous endeavors from coast
to coast in Canada!
